Chargers Sweep Field with 10 Stroke Victory

Placentia, Calif. - Cypress College showed why it has what it takes to make a serious run at a state championship this season after pulling away to a 7-0 match sweep with a score of 368 which beat  its closest competitor by 10 strokes - Orange Coast College who finished a distant second.

Kyle Pollema shot a three under par 69 to earn medalist honors and lead a Charger attack that included a pair of three over 74's by Paul Gomez and Ben Slobodien, a four over 75 by Kevin Kim, a 76 by Forbes Collins and a 77 by Dennis Waites.

Cuyamaca finished the day in third place with 379, Palomar came in fourth with a 385, Santiago Canyon (386) edged out Irvine Valley (387) by a stroke, and Saddleback (388) finished one shot ahead of last place Riverside Community College with a 389.

The Chargers 7-0 victory kept them in playoff position by putting them five wins ahead of Santiago Canyon in second place.

Cypress Finishes Fourth at Victoria Country Club

Chargers keep pace with Coast but lose ground to Santiago Canyon.

Riverside, Calif. - Paul Gomez and Ben Slobodien each shot a team-low 78 for Cypress College to finish tied for 9th place individually.

As a team, Cypress went 4-3 by finishing five shots behind third place Cuyamaca (395). Santiago Canyon took top honors with a 386, five shots ahead of host Riverside Community College at 391.

Orange Coast finished two shots behind Cypress in fifth place with a 402. Palomar ended the afternoon three shots better than Saddleback College (409), while Irvine Valley rounded out the field with a 420.
